QUEEN AND LIVE AID
On July 13th 1985, some of the biggest artists in the world were brought together by Bob Geldof to put on a show in order to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia.
Live aid was beamed by satellite to over 160 countries, reaching an audience of one and a half billion people! Queen went on stage at exactly 6.44pm, and because of the time difference, were the first to be seen in Philadelphia where the parallel concert took place.
Seeing and hearing Freddie's performance, it is incredible to consider that he had been advised not to perform that day due to a throat infection.
Queen were widely acknowledged as the best band of the day, and won thousands more fans on the strength of their performance.
"The rest of us played okay, but Freddie was out there and took it to another level. It wasn't just Queen fans - he connected with everyone." Brian, (1985)
As Elton John said:
"They stole the
show!"
